While Paris Fashion Week is currently on full swing, a new racism scandal has just burst. Top model Ajak Deng declared on Twitter yesterday that french luxury brand BALMAIN had refused to let her walk down the runway because she is too black. In a series of fired tweets, the young woman expressed her anger before deleting her account.
Several black models walked for BALMAIN yesterday (among which Jourdan Dunn, who opened the show) and let’s remember that singer Rihanna is the brand’s latest muse (and the brand’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing, is mixed race). What really happened then? Was Ajak Deng “not light-skinned enough” or was it a misunderstanding? BALMAIN didn’t comment for the moment.
